Advice on David Eddings? (http://www.sffworld.com/ubb/Forum1/HTML/000843.html) is an older topic on Mr. Eddings.

People on this forum either really like his writing or really don't like it.

Sillkie: You can click on the numbers on the bottom of the page to view older topics. I think there are a few more Eddings topics in the past.

Welcome!

You actually want to learn more about Eddings after reading Redemption?! http://www.sffworld.com/ubb/smile.gif I'm teasing of course.. everyone has a right to their own opinion of this work. Though after this book I will never pick up another Leigh and David Eddings book again. Just not my favorite. Like FF said, you either hate or love his work.. either way there are a lot of discussions about him on this board.

It's a question of taste, ofcorse. I know people, who love "Anthalus".
but when you dislike him-why you post here?

Absolutely,Belgarion! I'm currently reading "A Clash of Kings" and I'm disgusted by the brutal sex-scenes! Martin is good author, but now he is down in my eyes...another Goodkind!
While Eddings is great. I'm reading "Domes of Fire" and it is brilliant...
But Belgarion, come to www.eddingschronicles.com (http://www.eddingschronicles.com)
You'll like it!

Okay! I've sussed the 'sex in fantasy' thing.

Sex is a part of life for adults (or if it isn't they want it to be!). Because they see it as a part of life, they dont tend to find it gratuitous in novels - they may even find it makes them more real. (Unless its SERIOUSLY over the top unpleasant/over described etc)

Now (whatever they may say!) sex is NOT a part of life for the average 15 yr old, therefore they find sex in novels gratuitous and therefore unpleasant.

*takes bow*

Thank-you, thank you!

This is another topic, you know, Sam82
FitzFlagg, Martin is better than Terry Goodkind, but he is another brutal author, just like Mr.G who screams "Look at me,I'm the best because my characters are real and do a lot of ...".
But this is not good IMO. Fantasy doesn't need it. The "Tamuli" saga is brilliant example of this. For me it is far superiour to "A Song of Ice and Fire". For me-I repeat, I'm not trying to be insulting.
