This is where you tell us what you're reading in Fantasy this month. Good or bad, please let us know what you thought.
Over to the Book Clubs....
The Fantasy Book Club discussion is on The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss. (http://www.sffworld.com/forums/showthread.php?t=20147) A new recent classic of the genre?
The SF Book Club's having a rest for now.
Join in if you can!

Was in the mood for something light to read, so just started Mercedes Lackey's Magic's Pawn, which I'm enjoying so far (only about 70 pages in). Not ground breaking material by any means, but a nice easy read with some entertainingly irritating characters :)
Picked up Greg Keyes' The Briar King while I was at the store (was actually the original reason I went there, but got distracted), and will give that a try when I'm in the mood for something a bit more serious. Really looking forward to that series from what I've read of it here and elsewhere, but I think I need to be in more of a mood to focus to get everything out of that.

Finished The Briar King by Keyes couple a days ago.
It's a fine book, but did not make that much impression on me. I was surprised of how much different love stories were involved in it, which I didn't expect, but it was executed in a good way (except that of Aspar, which was annoying, and most of his POV's chapters).
I see why people call it Martin-lite, but for some reason reading it I was reminded more of Feist's Riftwar books.
In a mood for something different I started The Scar by Mieville.
So far, seems that it will be just that.

Hm. I read The Briar King a year or so ago. Not a bad book, though it's mostly good for a fun, light, easy read. I'm dissapointed that the last book in the series doesn't seem to have gotten very much praise. I'm still waiting for the paperback edition (and hating how long it takes publishers to release them!)
Since The Name of the Wind was up for this month's July discussion, I thought I'd start that (though I actually started about a week ago). After I slightly slow, and what felt to be a somewhat clumsy start, I'm utterly loving it now. I've only got about 150 more pages to go at the most, so I may well have finished it by today or tomorrow (assuming I get time to read more).

Erm, in case of The Born Queen - that was released in March or April in the UK . . . they do want to earn some money with it so no wonder that the paperback isn't out yet. ;)
I am about to finish The Black Company by Glen Cook. After that I want to start with In the Name of the Wind. I am at least trying to read the books from our Book Club . . . ;)

1/10 into Child of Flame by Kate Elliott (Crown of Stars, book 4)
the longest books of the series. Don't think I will post anything else here until August :)

I'm a little over 1/3 of the way through Gloriana by Moorcock, and I am really enjoying it. It is extremely well written, with fleshed out characters, and the court life, and the culture around the palace is pretty interesting. I am pleasently pleased with this book so far.

Wow. Was it really so recent? Feels like the hardback version has been out a long, long time. Maybe because amazon.co.uk doesn't have very accurate release date information.

Been reading nothing but Iain M Banks for the past month or so. I went out and bought all his scifi novels, and I'm currently loving Use of Weapons - hands down my favourite of the three I've read (Against A Dark Background, Consider Phlebas, The Player of Games). There is everything I love (or loved) about fantasy in his works, and big shiny things that go bang and fizzle and tweet. Next step is his non-genre fiction.
I picked up Glorianna (again) a few weeks ago, but it's too flowery for reading in transit. Pity because I enjoy the writing each and every time I start it.
Going to push another book to the top of my to-read pile as soon as I receive it.. ;)

I've just finished some comic books, "Beyond" and "Devi/Witchblade", and I'm half way through "Winetrbirth" by Brian Ruckley. I plan for this month:
"Corsair" by Tim Severin
"Promise of the Wolves" by Dorothy Hearst
"Mind the Gap" by Christopher Golden & Tim Lebbon.
After that I'll say what comes next.
