xMagicx July 2nd, 2008, 04:33 AM Hey people, this thread is for writing scripts and stuff to send away to peter jackson (if we do which I WILL at least), this thread is also for discussing locations of filmings, actors/actresses and basically everything to do with the pellinor movies to be. Have fun!;)
I thought we could start with the first scene: where cadders meets maerad in the cowbyre. Lets get going!
Bree July 2nd, 2008, 04:49 AM Alrighty.
How would we introduce the movie? Perhaps a swoop over the Osidh Annova, entering the cot and into the byre, with Maerad milking the cow?
Sirkana July 2nd, 2008, 07:02 AM There were some very in-depth discussions about the intro a while ago, I think on the original movies thread, that may be useful. :)
xMagicx July 2nd, 2008, 11:42 AM yeah, good idea
or we start in blackness with faint music and ardina's voice says the poem at the very start of the gift
one is the singer hidden from sunlight
two is the player etc.
then as soon as it finishes, the slave bell goes and the camera goes right in front of maerad's face and her eyes snap open, we then see various bits of gilman's cot with her doing various tasks then the title comes up
The Books of Pellinor
THE GIFT
then to the scene w. Lothar (buttery man) then etc
whaddya think?
EvaBourne July 2nd, 2008, 01:34 PM If you do a black screen with Ardina's narration, you're edging too far into "Lord of the Rings" territory. If it were me, I would be inclined to begin with something that instantly delivers the aesthetic flavor of Maerad's existence. It needs to be something visual that evokes a strong negative emotional reaction in the viewer.
To me, this would be mud and rain. Rain usually signifies great sadness or change; these are both things that characterize Maerad's life directly before she meets Cadvan. This would be a great opportunity to have helicopter shots of the land surrounding Gilman's Cot--giving the viewer a chance to determine the setting of the story.
During this time, the rumblings of a small earthquake could be shown (the Landrost is angry). Then, the camera shots would personalize things, and enter the realm of Gilman's Cot to focus on Maerad. As the first character shown, she is immediately established as the protagonist.
If it is raining heavily, the ground is muddy--she is barefoot. This demonstrates how dismal her life is. She could be performing a task, which must include interactions with the 'overseer(s)' to establish that she is a slave, and could also introduce some exposition in regards to her past and character (and introduce her name, of course).
There should be one moment in the beginning where she is seen playing her lyre. I always thought it would be interesting to show the rain and the scenery to the sad music of a single lyre. Then, the camera could focus on Maerad's fingers gently plucking the strings of the lyre, playing the song. She would be abruptly interrupted and scolded for neglecting her work. This immediate introduction to music would establish the musical theme of the novels.
The lyre music would probably be similar to this:

great ideas so far:)
xMagicx July 3rd, 2008, 04:11 AM yeah, that's a good idea Eva, I think we should try to fit in that poem somewhere though, coz it sort of introduces the whole fated one, treesong , quest thing.
Maybe we could start over the osidh annova (like someone suggested earlier) and go over to Gilman's cot, meaning we get a good idea of the landscape (make sure the Landrost is in there somewhere) then we can go right over the cot and we hear laughter, shouting and music and dog's barking. Then we go in to the great hall and get the camera going along the table with the hunters on either side and right at the very end of the hall on a small stool is mazda, playing her lyre with a scowl on her face.
Gilman gets up, swaying slightly and holding a goblet
Gilman:I congratulate all you noble huntersmen on being so noble and i am humbled in being in your presence (or some other kind of drunken speech) and well done to maerad our lovely huntress companion, I drink to all of you
Gilman falls flat on his face in the middle of the table, maerad tries not to smile but keeps playing, We then jump to the last few men awake and when the last one falls asleep, maerad picks up her lyre and walks past them with a grimace on her face, we then jump to the female slave quarters and see her fall onto her pallet and fall asleep. Then the title comes up on a background of water, when the title fades, maerad's hands appear and splash the water to her face. We get a good shot of her with ragged clothes and boots, tangled hair and a very tired expression with scratches and bruises covering about every inch of her (i'm gonna run outta room soon, please forgive if I double post), she yawns and looks around her (we get a look at gilman's cot in daylight), you hear footsteps and she spins around, Lothar walks on with a smirk
Lothar: been up late, maerad? better not let the tiredness get to you, you're working with me today
Maerad; Don't get it in your thick head I will
Lothar: ooooh, moody are we, you must try and get some sleep, tired slaves and I don't agree (you get a shot of a thick stick in his hand)
Maerad: shut your mouth lothar, or you'll feel worse than tired tomorrow (raises arms and starts chanting)
Lothar: raises hands to cover face) NO, no i meant no harm mearad, I was just joking
Maerad:well, I didn't find it very funny, now SCRAM
Lothar bustles off looking back over his shoulder once
Bree July 3rd, 2008, 04:30 AM Doesn't the Landrost overlook the Osidh Annova? so perhaps we can start the sweep from there. Perhaps you could have a loud outcry as you fly over it, to show Cadvan is there.
*slave bell tolls. Maerad grudgingly walks towards the byre.*
Sirkana July 3rd, 2008, 06:57 AM Do you think the scene with Lothar is really necessary? It's a long book...
