There's a book called the Fifth head of Cerberus, but it's by Gene Wolfe. Only thing I can think of at the moment!

hmmm - iirc it's sci-fi, so probably not. Just picked it up and randomly flicked through it quita a while back. Sorry! http://www.sffworld.com/ubb/frown.gif

Well, F--- Cerberus could be The Fifth Head of Cerberus by Gene Wolfe but Banks might Iain Banks author of Feersum Endjinn, Consider Phlebas etc.

Well, I had a quick look.
The name 'Drizzt' obviously rings bells of Forgotten Realms, but in terms of content and style it seems more like Fritz Leiber or Robert Howard.
Iain Banks writes either sci-fi or an odd sort of life/horror; I've read almost all of his books and am fairly sure that there's nothing like your story in any of them. Plus, he has a very recognisable style.
It doesn't remind me of a specific thing in anything I've read, so I'm afraid I can't help.
Anyone else who wants a look, the story is at http://www.sffworld.com/authors/m/malthouse_josh/fiction/thiefofprophecy1.html
It's fairly short; check it out and see if it rings any bells.

I fail to see what resemblance those two pages could have to FIFTH HEAD OF CERBERUS.
