Just finished reading this article:
http://www.nationalpost.com/artslife/story.html?f=/stories/20011217/888813.html
Makes you think of that saying: so many books, so little time. Me, I max out on 3-4 books at the same time: 2 fantasies, 1 science-fiction, and 1 non-fiction.
And yes, I log on to this forum because I want to socialize and talk about the books! http://www.sffworld.com/ubb/smile.gif
What about you guys out there?
P.S. Thanks to Fantastic Metropolis for the article!

I usually read only one book at a time, and I'm not too worried about what I might miss. I'll enjoy the time I have with the book in front of me.
Life's too short to stress over how life's too short, heheheh.
I also like to drop in here and talk about the books I've read, and get ideas and titles for ones I need to hunt down.

The lyf so short, the art so long to lerne ... I used to have constant anxieties about all the things I don't know.
But these days I just read what I enjoy, following my bliss as it were, and it's fine not knowing everything. I mean, who does?

That's a good article; it says pretty well how I feel on the topic. One favorable way in which the thought of "so many books so little time" applies to fantasy is that fantasy is a rather small genre compared to all published literature.
Therefore, of all the fantasy books published in a given year, the ones I will be interested in reading may number less than five or ten. Looking at it that way, it's not so bleak so long as you stick to fantasy http://www.sffworld.com/ubb/smile.gif

I kind of agree with the article. I usually get a whole lot of books that stand in stacks around my bed waiting to be read, but i read them one at a time.
It's true that fantasy is a relatively small genre, yet it's not that new, so there's lots of things to catch up with.

I have the same problem, so many books, so little time. And, I stick with the one genre (fantasy/scifi) mostly.. Heaven forbid if I started reading outside that genre to much.. I'd be swamped..
I read a book at a time, and it takes me a wee bit of time to finish a good size novel. And my shelf is lined with so many books that I want to read..
It's a great articile, I can relate to lots of it, espically the anxiety of what to read next. http://www.sffworld.com/ubb/smile.gif

Perhaps I am a bit of an odd ball, I can go two or three at a time. Sometimes, if there is something that comes up on the new book rack I can increase that number to three. Right now its The Legend of Huma by Richard Knaack and Fires of Heaven by Robert Jordan. Although there is a new Grisham that is looking interesting these days, a Painted House.

If I pick up another book while I'm reading one, then the one book is not holding my attention. I'll probably not finish it then.
I actually like a stack of unread books by my chair. It means I have a choice on the next book to read.

I can't remember the last time I was under about 7 or 8. I have one book at home. One in my car. One at my parents' place... I read whichever is handy at any given time. Although I really don't worry about books that I'll never get to. I'll read the ones I want, and I'll enjoy them, but there's really no point in stressing over missing a good book. I'm certain I'll miss lots of good books. *shrug*
