Does anyone share my affection for Fritz and his wonderful characters? I put the anthology collections on my wish list for Christmas, so I hope to be re-reading him soon.
It's pulp fantasy at it's best. I enjoyed the Mouser books very much. Very entertaining light reading.

Yes, fantastic author and much underrated.
His range of work from horror to Sf to Fantasy is amazing.
Personal faves: Lankhmar (of course), The Big Time and The Wanderer (both SF) and Conjure Wife (horror).

Hmm I've only read his Lankhmar stories. I need to look up the rest...

Hearing that he is considered one of the founding fathers of modern fantasy, I decided to give Leiber a go. Started with Swords Against Wizardry (not the first book in the series I know, but that was the earliest book I had), and found it entertaining enough, but then, I put it down halfway into the story, and never picked it up again. Now, call me overly critical, but when I do that to a book, it speaks to me that it's just not good enough for me (oh, the ego!). http://www.sffworld.com/ubb/wink.gif

I first read "Swords of Lanhkmar" several years ago and afterwards put Leiber on my list of to-chase down. His works are great reading fare and you won't feel guilty afterwards that you're reading drek as this is classic fantasy we're talking about here.
I've completed almost all the Swords series except for "Swords against Wizardry" (the last one before "The Knight and Knave of Swords" conclusion). However, what do you guys recommend for other books by Leiber that are not about Fafhrd and the Grey Mouser?

There's tons of good Leiber:
"Conjure Wife" and "Our Lady of Darkness" are seminal dark fantasy/horror.
"The Wanderer" is excellent classic sf. As is "You're All Alone" or "The Sinful Ones".
Or try his short story collections.

Lieber is one of the (read my) top five fantasy authors.
Shows that a hero can come in all shapes, sizes, and moral fiber.

Conjure Wife and Our Lady of Darkness are both in print in paperback from TOR in one volume.

I can definitely say I don't share your affection for Fritz Leiber. IMO, his characters are really, really annoying. They annoyed me so much that I dropped the book after 50 pages. This is the only fantasy author I ever read that could annoy me so badly by the characters. Though partly the fault might be on the translation, dialogues totally killed me.
