I read the first two chapters of "A Game of Thrones". These pages are the best thing from the fantasy I've ever read.
Martin is genious!

You're preaching to the choir on this one...

That's got to be one of the quickest snap-judgements I've ever heard!

It must have made a huge impression on you. How can you make such a statement after only reading two chapters?

Welcome to the club!!!

His series is one of the best if not the best Ive read, but I didn't come to that descision overnight.I had to read the first two books before that entered my thoughts. Nevertheless Im still going to wait for the rest of the books before I cast my final vote. Its a close call, but he still has room to screw it up. Hopefully he doesn't do a Jordan.

And I think I can speak for most people here, and say that the series so far is in the top 5 all time serieses. Only because everywhere Ive been, all I hear is praise , never anyone putting it down.

Just to let you know, I don't like it much at all. http://www.sffworld.com/ubb/smile.gif I also know at least one other person who thinks the same as I do.. I'm not going to get into details, but I thought you might benefit from hearing that there is _someone_ who is not in love with the series..

How can you make that judgement after 2 chapters? It took a book and a half for him to win me over. How can you realise the depth he has placed in the characters, story and politics(which make them worth reading) after 2 chapters? IMO 2 chapters is only really enough to be captured by writing style, and I'm not convinced GRRM has a standout style (as compared to say China Mieville).

Well, after reading two chapters of AGoT I knew that GRRM was a great writer, in the technical sense. After finishing AGoT I knew Martin was going to be one of my favorites. After A Clash of Kings, Martin was definitely in my top three favorite authors. After the brilliant A Storm of Swords, I can easily state that GRRM is the best damn fantasy author I've ever encountered.

Glad you are enjoying it Allanon! It only gets better!

Strangely, it took quite a while for me to start to enjoy this series. The first half of a game of thrones didn't really catch me up, I just read it because I had little esle to read at the time. But having just finished the clash of kings, I really like the story. Though it's not my favorite style, martin handles it about as good as can be done. I'll be on to storm of swords, but for now, Perdido is next in line...

Chuckle, only joking Allanon, glad you are reading something that is excellent, a bit liking reading Eddings for the first time!

Now I read 270 pages. Martin is absolutely with no closer competition...
but Belgarion,I still LOVE Eddings and probably I'll love "Ellenium" and "Belgariad" forever.
