I read this book about 25 years ago but it may be a little older. The setting was a planet that every so many years the other planets in the system align and create these huge waves. The hero of the story is one of many people that travel to this planet for a contest to ride these huge waves for as long as they can. These waves last for hours.
Not only do they compete with each other but there are creatures in the wave that try to attack them. The action is covered from above by News crews.
In the end the main character wins the contest and becomes one of the very few to ride the wave all the way to the shore.

It kind of reminds me of "The Long Walk" by Stephen King as Richard Bachman, only on the wave and no one gets shot!! lol

I cannot remember the title of the book or the author.

Can anyone help?!?!?!?!
Thanks

Yeaaaaaaaa I found it.
The name of the story is "Surfeit" by Alan Dean Foster.
It's a short story written in 1982 and is included in the book of short stories called "....Who Needs Enemies?" If you get the chance pick it up, it's a good story.

Good job Tiger lol
