I am writing a story in which people pledge into a fraternity, however I realized that I don't know much about what pledging into a college fraternity is like except drinking. Does anyone have any stories about pledging a college fraternity? Preferably physically challenging ones? Thanks so much to anyone who'll reply!

Well it really depends on the fraternity and not all of them involve drinking and/or hazing. In fact, most of the hazing stories you hear about, if done these days, would result in severe legal consequences for the parties involved - including expulsion from school.

That being said the general formula such stunts is to place the pledges in some kind of socially or physically or emotionally awkward scenario that demonstrates in one way or another their committment to the organization.

From a fictional point of view the real question that comes in is: what are you willing to give up to gain acceptance into an organization?

Recently wrote a story for the flash fiction contest that sort of deals with what you're talking about. My guess is like choppy's: In a fraternity, you must do something or give something up in order to get something, usually acceptance.

However, this fic dealt more with drinking, although there are all different types. And although wikipedia isn't the most valuable resource, perhaps you could try this link:

Going to the section "College and University Fraternities" in this article might be most helpful.

Best wishes! :)

I was hoping for any hazing stories or ideas I could feed off of. I'm basically trying to make this hell for this character so that the outcome can go the way I want it to. Also preferably nothing that would disturb me to write about, being a girl i don't want to delve into certain... dirty aspects of the male mind. Thanks to you both for what you've said so far.
