Any thoughts on her series that features the war between Lysaer and Ariton, the two brothers of light and shadow?

I checked the majority of her books out of the library once... that was a mistake...
The author just seemed to want to cram information into her book with no thought of making it interesting or comprehensible... I vaguely remember something about a pirate, and the two princes drinking from a well and being given 600 years of life. After that I just gave up, the thought of another 6 books filled with THAT was a little daunting...

I've read the first four books in the series and have loved it. The language sometimes makes it a bit difficult to get into, but, if you persevere, you'll be well rewarded. Here characters are very realistic (i.e., three dimensional), the world is very well established (history, peoples, countries, etc.), and the battle scenes and emotion just grab hold of you and don't let go.
A word of warning, though...book 6 is out in hardback now (I think) and there are quite a few more coming.

As Warewolf said: A very well developed, fleshed out book. Janny has a great writing style that some find a little longwinded (I prefer the term decriptive).
A lot of people bog down about halfway through the first book, as Ancalagon the Black did. It's VERY worth while pushing through though...

Yes on all accounts posted here (including the contradictory ones).
After all, Wurts does have a tendency to make the world very real that I'm not surprised some readers may find the info-dump too much.
But I like the series, having even bought 'Grand Conspiracy' in HB (though it was half-price http://www.sffworld.com/ubb/wink.gif).
Funny enough, her earlier works-- which were also okay-- were not that.. descriptive. Actually, if you've read 'Master of Whitestorm'(her book before The War of Light and Shadow) you can actually see her shift of writing in the middle of the novel. http://www.sffworld.com/ubb/smile.gif

I personally did not like Wurt's Light and Shadow series. In fact, book 1 (which I can't even remember the name)is one of the few fantasy books I was never able to finish. However, I loved her collaboration with Feist in the Empire trilogy.

You didn't like the series yet you only read the first book?
I would say that means you only didn't like the first book, not the series, as you couldn't know if you didn't lke the series, not having read it.
*Sits back and wonders if that made sense*

I'll second Lady Fox's endorsement for the Feist/Wurts collabo on the Empire series. If you liked Feist's Riftwar Saga, this companion series is well worth the read. It is not, however, nearly as epic as the Wars of Light and Shadow series.

Eventine - allow me to rephrase myself. I didn't like book 1, couldn't get past the first 100 pages, and don't see any need to force myself to read any more of this series. Therefore, I did not like the part of this series that I read.
