I posted this under fantasy, but in retrospect it might be sci fi

Does anyone know this book? I know it's not a good description, but here goes: The main character is some person of importance (i can't remember if its a family of power or royalty) and I think they have regenerative powers. The main man is betrayed, and left for dead or flees to a desert. It seems like there are different ecologies on this planet, and each of the areas has a people who the main character learns from. I don't remember much else except that he gets the girl in the end and they freeze themselves in time for a long time, and are thought by locals to be statues until they come out of the freeze thousands of years later and live out there years in peace.

or something like that.

Any ideas?

Never mind, I found out that it was A Planet Called Treason by Orson Scott Card.
