Historians/scribes

For some reason I always like these characters in whatever book I read (aside from the councillors of course). Historians, scribes, there's something cool about them, they're somehow more in touch with the mystical part of the world for me. (one of the best parts of the LoTR film was seeing Gandalf go through all those scrolls in Minas Tirith http://www.sffworld.com/ubb/wink.gif)

One that comes to me is Fitz for keeping the records of the Six Duchies. Another is Duiker from the Malazan Book of the Fallen, or Toc the Younger (or was it the Elder?), very cool characters.

Some other suggestions?

Croaker from the Black Company novel. THE Historian (whith capital H).

or Toc the Younger (or was it the Elder?),

Well we don't know much about Toc the Elder so you were probably correct with younger. Though he's not a scribe or Historian.

Duiker was/is a great Historian though. Gotta love a historian who can kick some ass http://www.sffworld.com/ubb/smile.gif.

If you like these types of characters than Dragon Lance has a treat for you. There is a character in all of the Dragon Lance novels named Astinus who is one of those eternal beeings. He was the first to walk on the planet Krynn and has spent all of the centuries writting the history of the planet. He is one of those characters that never dies, just writes and writes. Interesting? Try Dragons of a Autumn Twlilight and you will be hooked, like me, for life.

That sounds wicked! I had the Dragonlance chronicles on my list already anyway, to read about the legend that is Raistlin Majere. SO this character is also in the Chronicles right? They're followed by Legends?

What about The Days in Runelords? They seem to be pretty interesting historians who know absolutely everything http://www.sffworld.com/ubb/smile.gif

I doubt it is any coincidence that not only is the Brown Ajah the favorite of most readers that I have seen make such opinions known, but also most Brown sisters rank among Jordan's most intriguing and enigmatic.

Lani, The Days? I've not read Runelords but I suppose they're definitly worth a try. Are they prominent in the story?

John, Brown Ajah= a historian then, as well as his sisters, or are they different characters?

The Brown Ajah is a faction of the White Tower. They are mainly researhers and historians. Sisters in WoT refers to Aes Sedai.

If you like that one Mifanon, you will like a lot of the Dragon Lance saga. The chronicler, as he is sometimes called, is around in the Chronicles sub-series, but really makes his debute in the Legends sub-series. He has a side kick, Bertram, who puts in a few additional appearances in some of the other books. You will love the chronicler and Bertram both.
