What do people here think of the score? I've been listening to it lately trying to make up my mind as to whether I like it or not.

I've found myself unable to stop listening to 'The Breaking of the Fellowship' which just seems to be a song of utter perfection.
I don't even mind the use of the children's choir, which I initially found questionable.

What do the rest of you think?

A graet album! though the tones are a bit low for my liking. But it's still great to put it in the CD-player when I write! http://www.sffworld.com/ubb/wink.gif

Very ambiguous. SOme parts are excellent, some parts aren't my taste. I like the Fellowship theme and Prophecy but there are more than three I really don't like.

Not in a league with Braveheart and Last of the Mohicans in my opinion.

I think Howard Shore's LOTR soundtrack is of Oscar winning quality. I love it. Especially tracks 12 and 13... very dark and ominious... very appropriate for Moria.

Yup - mentioned this in the Film & TV section when it came out. It has really grown on me - think it is a fantastic score, though very dark in tone. The end sequence of tracks (the last five or so) work very well together and the Enya parts IMO work surprisingly well (well, surprising to me! http://www.sffworld.com/ubb/smile.gif ) and Elizabeth Fraser from the Cocteau Twins too. Though I enjoy the BBC Radio series music, this has the edge. Was a surprise because Howard Shore's previous scores (that I've heard) I wasn't that impressed with.

I have reservations with film music taken away from the film (Harry Potter is a case in point!) but this has become my favourite music to work and read by lately.

I like it. Certain tracks are very well put together, particularly "many meetings" and "the breaking of the fellowship" (my personal favorite). Others are just mediocre in my opinion, but that's to be expected. It's being written for a film, and although it fits perfect for the scene in the movie, some of the songs aren't the best to sit down and listen to. All in all it's great. Has a nice little slot next to my braveheart, last of the mohicans, and the piano soundtracks.

It's certainly a nice soundtrack to mix and match in a playlist with Conan the Barbarian and [the instrumental tracks of] Bal-Sagoth.

I'm addicted to at least half this soundtrack. I have to admit, I was surprised by the quality of it all, especially 'Concerning Hobbits,' which was...surprisingly good.

I'm afraid I don't know the conversion from English pounds to American dollars. Is 25 pounds expensive?

Yup. The leather copy is nice Dennizm, but there are few differences between that and the normal. I got mine on the internet for about £20 - it was an early Xmas pressie I was 'told' to buy! (I had already bought myself a 'normal' copy).

Qin - At current exchange rates - £25, that's $36.25.
(Or 40.99 Euros, evidently).

Normally CD's can be between £10-15, (that's $14.50 - $21.75. This is still quite expensive compared with our European neighbours I understand.
