I remember reading some book a long time ago... I can't really remember it, except somehow the main characters were labeled "Companions"?

I know this is not much to go on, but does it ring a bell for anyone?

maybe it was something by Mercedes Lackey. I don't know if the Companions in her books are the main characteres or not but I know they're there.

Mercedes Lackey's Valdemar series has VERY important characters called "Companions". They are magical white horses with telepathic powers that bond to a chosen human who thus becomes a "Herald".... I could go on if this is the book type thing you were thinking of.

It could also be Weis & Hickmans 'Dragonlance Chronicles'... the party of adventurers are often referred to as The Companions.

Just a shot in the dark.

Dennizm, sometimes a shot in the dark is the right answer. The correct answer is: Dragon Lance. The Companions are a set of heroes who are thrust into the middle of a large war called The War of the Lance and forced to fight off the evil Dragon Armies. It is interesting to note that one of the Companions is a Dragon Army general. The Companions are:

Caramon Majere
Raistlin Majere
Kitra Uth Mathar
Tass Burfoot
Strum Brightblade
Tanis Half Elven
Flint Fireforge
Tika Wylan Majere

Caramon and Raistlin are twins. Kitra is the twins half sister. Tika marries Caramon. Kitra has strums son (don't recall a wedding). Strum is a knight. Flint is a Dwarf. Tanis is the product of a human male raping a female dwarf. Tass is probably the best known a best loved of the companions.

Hope this helps.

Tanis is the product of a human male raping a female dwarf.

Er... that is a female elf... surely http://www.sffworld.com/ubb/wink.gif Otherwise he would be Tanis Half-Dwarfen!!!

Perhaps Martin's Brave Companions? http://www.sffworld.com/ubb/smile.gif

Unlikely, since they're not main characters.

I think it was Dragon Lance. Thank you for your answers.

No, Tanis's mother was an elf and his father was human, thus its Tanis Half-Elven.
