I looked around and I'm not sure if anyone's posted on this topic. I tried searches and whatnot, yadda yadda yadda...
Anyway, what I'm trying to say is I am trying to get a friend interested in fantasy. She says she has no interest in it whatsoever, but she still enjoys fiction. So, I figure fantasy is just fiction with a much more creative author (one who not only comes up with a story, but a whole world as well).
What should I recommend to her to get her hooked? I gave her Eye of the World because it's really well written and I wanted her to get a taste of how amazing the fantasy genre can be. But, I'm also thinking even one of those books is pretty daunting for someone who hasn't read fantasy (I neglected to mention there are 11 more books that are just as large if not larger, whoops).
Now, I'm thinking, should I recommend Neil Gaiman? Neverwhere maybe? I know she liked Stardust the movie even though she thought she wouldn't.
I need some help everyone, because she just gets turned off too easily at the sole mention of "fantasy".
