Perhaps it's nice to share what's on your undoubtedly humongous to read pile, one thing we all seem to have in common.
Shows some general interest areas as well I think.... as such I'm appealing to the mods that any non-fantasy books in the lists will not ensure that this thread is moved. http://www.sffworld.com/ubb/smile.gif

Muahahahah I'd type the titles and authors of all the books sitting in my to-read piles, but I'd like to do other stuff this evening. I figured I'd take my roomate's new $900 (canuck bucks) digital camera out for a spin! The pictures are a little fuzzy since we used the auto exposure setting. Hopefully 4 pictures will be worth a few thousand words :

Here's the top part of my headboard:

And a side shot to give a better look:

Here's the bottom row of the headboard:

and here's the large shelf in my new 72"x36" bookshelf:

I won't list the books I intend to buy this year, but I know in the next 2 months the pile will grow by 15-20 more softcovers!

Well, let's see what's lying in my pile...
1. Neil Gaiman 'American Gods'
2. Piers Anothony 'Split Infinity'
3. Orson Scott Card 'Children of the Mind'
4. Robin Hobb 'The Fool's Errand'
5. Robin Hobb 'The Livership Traders'
6. JV Jones 'The Cavern of Black Ice'
7. Stephen King 'The Dark Tower Series'
8. Gordon Dixon hmm... i actually forgot what the book is called.

Well, that's it for me so far though I'm surely it will expand soon enough.

HA!! You guys got nothin'!!! Check out my library online...I've marked which ones I've read and which ones I haven't...
http://www.geocities.com/cmdubb/library.htm

And that would be about 500 books that I haven't read http://www.sffworld.com/ubb/smile.gif

umm you people are crazy! Normal people buy one or two books and read them and then buy some more. 700 unread books???

Who's to say what is normal? You may have 1 or 2 unread books in your pile. Myself, I ususally hover around 40 unread books. The books span many genres, styles and subject matters b/c I am never sure what I want to read next. That does not make me abnormal. Other things do however.

I would like to ask a question, at this point that might spark a bit of debate, Mifanion - you appear to have a sizeable reading list there. Is it a good idea to have a large reading list mapped out for yourself in advance? Or is it a better idea to have a short reading list, as I do, and add to the list as opportunity allows? Clearly if you find a book sale where the books are 75 % off, then I too would fill out the reading list to this extent but why program yourself this far in advance?

Mifanion - do you have an overall strategy to your reading list? I have a strategy to mine. I am attempting to become familiar with all of the famous fantasy writers available.

Too all - What are the overall goals behind your reading lists? Should there even be an overall goal to your reading list? Or this should be another one of those, let's play it by ear things?
