I was talking to my sister a while back, and she said that she would like to start reading fantasy novels. And she said, that while she loves the idea of the traditional "swords&sorcery" type fantasy, such as LOTR, Memory,Sorrow, and Thorn Trilogy, Dragonlance, Wheel of Time, etc., she would like to start out reading fantasy by reading a different vein of it, "Pirate Fantasy". You know, adventures upon the high seas, pirates, swashbuckling, giant ships, seamonsters, etc.
So I was wondering, could anyone here please suggest some pirate fantasy novels that my sister could read? I would very much appreciate it.
The only pirate fantasy novel that I can think of is "Corsair" by Chris Bunch.

The Liveship Traders by Robin Hobb. One of the primary characters is a pirate and there are sea serpents.
Robin Hobb is a fantastic writer.

Robert Jordan has a race of sea fairing pirats running around his books. Dragon Lance frequently involves them - in the book the Companions the story revolves around a bunch of them.

Uh JB, just because the Sea Folk sail around all the time doesn't make them pirates.
Zsinj: Has your sister read Tai-pan by James Clavell? It's historical fiction as opposed to fantasy but has some cool piracy stuff. And what does Zsinj16 mean, for curiosity's sake?

Saintjon: Well, it so happens that many people have asked me what my screenname means. http://www.sffworld.com/ubb/smile.gif
I created it because it is one of the names of my favorite villains in the Star Wars novels, Warlord Zsinj, and I made up that screenname and applied it online when I was 16 years old, hence the number 16 at the end.
Well, there you have it!

Well I was going to say "Corsair" but you allready have it listed, I enjoyed reading it. Its in paperback so it won't cost you much either. How about "The King's Buccaneer" by Raymond Feist its a good read.

I admit it I am stretching things a bit, saintjohn. I am sort of distorting the term pirates.
