Hope for Humour

I woke up today with a desperate need to share my opinions. I couldn't decide who my favorite humourous fantasy author was - Terry Pratchett or Esther Friesner.

I decided on Friesner for the moment - although if P. G. Wodehouse had written genre fiction I probably would have picked him.

What are your favorites?
I'm looking for more reading material. Nobody writes fast enough to keep up with my reading speed.

It's a good thread but it isn't long enough. I need more info. More books.

Tom Holt is pretty good but he gets laboured after a while.

Have you read "The Compleat Enchanter"? It's a collection of the Harold Shea stories by Fletcher Pratt and L. Sprague DeCamp.

And there's Peregrine Primus by Avram Davidson.

A Night In The Lonesome October by Roger Zelazny is also amusing.

Then there is The Princess Bride by William Goldman, the Xanth series by Piers Anthony, The Tough Guide to Fantasyland by Diane Wynne Jones, Bored of the Rings, and The Kai Lung stories by Ernst Bramah.

There's also an anthology, The Mammoth Book of Comic Fantasy.
For sophisticated humor, look for James Branch Cabell. "Jurgen", which was banned in 1921, is still in print. The others can often be found on eBay or Half.com.

The Face in the Frost by John Bellairs is often hilarious.

I only remember one, Bring me the Head of Prince Charming by Roger Zelazny. Here's a link to the summary of the book:

I think there was another book in this series. Don't remember its name.

Well he's not humorous persay, but Jordan's numerous Lini quotes often make me laugh at there implications, irony, or plain, hard truth.

My input.

Humorous Writing (http://www.sffworld.com/ubb/Forum1/HTML/001212.html) is a fairly recent topic on this subject.

If anyone has ever read about the Dragon Lance gnomes or Gully Dwarfs then you have read some of the best in humourous fantasy.

I recently read Jasper Fforde's The Eyre affair and found it quite amusing. Terry Pratchett is apparently, iirc, 'watching him uneasily' according to the jacket blurb! http://www.sffworld.com/ubb/wink.gif
