Hehe I just know you all love Jordan - Martin topics http://www.sffworld.com/ubb/wink.gif

So yeah does anyone love both series?

I get the feeling from this board and others that the majority of Martin fans hate or really dislike WoT. Where as Jordan fans tend to atleast semi like or love Martin.

Not to mention all those Martin fans that were once Jordan fans but now for some odd reason hate him but still continue to buy and read his books. Whats up with that?

Oh and before i forget.....Martin sooks! http://www.sffworld.com/ubb/wink.gif

Do I like both of these two popular writers? Yes. Lets put it this way, they are both writers I will buy immediatley when their books publish in hardback, no paperback waiting for me.

Though I think Martin is a better writer, I think Jordan may be a better world builder, almost to a fault. I think a lot of people do enjoy both writers close to the same amount, but at least on this board, it has become somewhat of a guilty pleasure for people to rag on Jordan and Goodkind.

Overall, I think I like Martin a little more, but to be fair, there are writers I like more than both of them.

I like'em both. I have so far managed to post all kinds of stuff too, without knocking Jordan or Goodkind. The fact that I haven't read Goodkind helps, though! I gotta say, after some of the criticism I've read in here, I don't know if I would. Whatever.
BTW, I re-read the end of Winter's Heart the other day and find it hard to abide by these people who insist nothing important happened in that novel.
Yo Fitz, who are some of these better authors you mentioned? Curious.

I, too, like them both for different reasons and similar reasons. They're both good.

Even though that would give this thread a wholy different swing, I'd be interested as well. Is it this Woodring Stover that you like more than both? Kay, Williams? Perhaps Donaldson?

(closes his eyes and reads FF's mind)

I would say he's going to mention Matthew Woodring Stover and John Marco for sure (and I would certainly back him up--they are both excellent writers). He'll also mention Tad Williams and his Otherworld series-- very near the top of my "to-buy-when-the-money-comes-in" pile. China Mieville (yummy!!!) just might make the cut too... as might Donaldson. What else? Erikson?

OMG - he's picked up psychic powers over there in the US.

Well FF - did he hit the nail on the head??

Naw, he's just using the Dark Force. http://www.sffworld.com/ubb/wink.gif

My sentiments exactly. http://www.sffworld.com/ubb/smile.gif If you were to ask me which is better, I'd say both. Different needs answered by different writers. You want intrigue laced with your poison, go with Martin. You want epic-laden destiny's road, go with Jordan.

Mod Note: I added the quote blocks and made the message not as wide. all the content is the same though

Caldazar

I have no problem with you starting this thread.

However, your intention seems to have been to make this another comparison thread, rather than a compatibility thread http://www.sffworld.com/ubb/smile.gif Even that, even though done before is not a problem.

I get the feeling from this board and others that the majority of Martin fans hate or really dislike WoT

Hrm. This dislike of Jordan doesn't seem to be at all related to being a fan of Martin. I see this same dislike at Tolkien boards. I also noticed it at Malazanempire and a Covenant board I visited quite recently. I also see posters on this jolly board that have no particular love for Martin, yet don't like Jordan anyway. Of course, there are huge amounts of people that love both Martin and Jordan, so the premise that Martinlovers detest Jordan is flawed at best.

Not to mention all those Martin fans that were once Jordan fans but now for some odd reason hate him

Well, it is a little inflammatory to say that their reasons are odd. I've seen perfectly fine explanations. Perhaps you just fail to understand those reasons.

Wrong! I didnt ask who you liked better, I asked who likes both authors.

This dislike of Jordan doesn't seem to be at all related to being a fan of Martin.

I did not say that the reason people dislike Jordan is because they are fans of Martin. I said that I got the feeling that the majority of Martin fans don't like Jordan. Those are two sperate things ya know.

Well, it is a little inflammatory to say that their reasons are odd. I've seen perfectly fine explanations. Perhaps you just fail to understand those reasons.

To me there reasons are odd http://www.sffworld.com/ubb/smile.gif. Whats inflammatory about that? To continue to read something they dislike, to me is odd. its not inflammatory to say youy find something odd.
