protagonist male, not human with purple/violet eyes, taller than human

I read this 9 years ago, the hero lived in a world where there is two species living together, the non human species are called I can't remember but it did began with letter D, in that world they have a God that has violet eyes, the protagonist was tortured by the enemy, his eyes gouged out (can't remember the color of his original eyes), but new violet eyes replaced it.

This is probably book 1 of a trilogy.

I remember that this was very good, in fact this was the book that hooked me into the fantasy genre.

So please help. I really want to read it again and finish the series or trilogy.

Is it R.A. Salvatore's Drizzt D'Urden series?

Is it R.A. Salvatore's Drizzt D'Urden series?

No, my memory of it is very vague, but I'm sure there's no elves.
Another clue is that he's a member of a secret infamous Guild of something, beggars? thieves?assassins? can't remember which, but they were the one's who rescued the protagonist after 2 friends/superior from the local army came looking for him, these two people, by the way gave the protagonist a mission to spy/scout a secret cult they believed to be conspiring with the enemy, that was one of the reason why he was in peril in the first place. It may also be a bit sci-fi, not too sure, that maybe humans colonized the protagonist's planet a long time ago that's why there's two species in that world. Also at that time, a war was going on.

It was the first fantasy book I've ever read that's why I didn't pay any attention to details :(

This makes me think of John Marco's Tyrants and Kings Trilogy, but I know that can't be it. :(

It only slightly sounds like Nine Princes in Amber, the first in the Chronicles of Amber

Not the Nine Princess of Amber either, I've just finished book 6 just last week.
Anyway thank you guys for taking the time to reply.

Did the royalty descend from this God, and did they have purple eyes with golden flecks? I read that looooooong ago, and I can't remember the title either.

Yeah, I kinda remember having purple eyes associated with royalty, and now I remember the gold flecks after you mentioned it.

Can you remember some more? It'll be great if we have more clues :)
