So I was at the bookstore and the Sara Douglass books really confuse me...

So I find this "Axis Trilogy". The first books is called BattleAxe, I forget the name of the second, and the third is called "Starman". Then I find a trilogy called the "Wayfarer Redemption", I think the first one was called Sinner or something. Fair enough. They're apparently sequels to the Axis Trilogy.

Then I look to the right and theres a book called "Wayfarer Redemption". Ok, sure theres a book named after one of her trilogies. I can handle that. But then beside that, theres a book that im pretty sure was called "Enchanter", which said "Wayfarer Redemption" book 2. So I look closer at the Wayfarer Redemption book, and it says its book 1 of the Wayfarer Redemption books. So in my hands Im holding book 1 and 2 of the "Wayfarer Redemption", and then 2 completely different books which also are apparently the first 2 books of the "Wayfarer Redemption". uhhhh ok.
As if Im not confused enough. Then in the "Enchanter" book, it says look for Wayfarer Redemption book 3, "Starman". So not only will that make two completely different book threes of the Wayfarer Redemption, but there is already a book by her called Starman which is the third book in the "Axis Trilogy".

So anyways, Im quite confused. Anyone wanna help????

From Firecat in the Books Read in April thread:

'Finished Sara Douglass's Wayfarer Redemption series.

(Dammit, I never know how to refer to that series, since in Australia Wayfarer Redemption refers only to the 2nd trilogy, and in North America it refers to the whole 6 book series'.

Does this help?

Yea but there was 8 books.

Wayfarer Redemption (book 1)
Enchanter (book 2) -i think thats the name

Then the Axis Trilogy (the third book, Starman, was apparently also supposed to be the third book after Enchanter???????? ie-Enchanter said "look for Starman, the sequel to Enchanter", but Starman is the third book in the Axis Trilogy)

Then another Wayfarer Redemption trilogy with three different books.

Since I own them all, here you go:

Book 1: Published as The Wayfarer Redemption in the US, Battleaxe in Australia
Book 2: Enchanter
Book 3: Starman

These three books are the first trilogy, The Axis Trilogy

Book 4: Sinner
Book 5: Pilgram
Book 6: Crusader

These three books are the second trilogy, called The Wayfarer Redemption in Australia, but in the US The Wayfarer Redemption refers to the pair of trilogies (all 6 books).

Both trilogies take place in the same world, with Sinner starting about 35 years after the end of Starman.

So there are only 6 books, it's just that the US publisher changed the title on the first book, using the title of the second trilogy, and confused the hell out of everyone.

Ok I get it. Thanks a lot!

Another question-are they recommended??

I assume everyone knows my answer to this one. http://www.sffworld.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

Yes! Yes! Yes!

These are up there with GRRM as my all time favourites. I found this series gritty, gutsy and the characters were fabulous (though I admit I ended up hating Axis - but that's beside the point). Not everyone agrees with my opinion, but there are lots who do.

Only one way to know if they're your kind of thing - read and find out!!! http://www.sffworld.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

*Now sits back and waits for JohnH to give his completely contrary point of view http://www.sffworld.com/ubb/smile.gif*

Well, JohnH may disagree with you but I don't. The entire series isn't available yet in the US, but I liked books 1 and 2 so much that I ended up ordering the remaining 4 books from Canada. I think this is a great series and I highly recommend it.

I loved the first 5 books (and I ended up hating Axis as well), but as I mentioned in the 'Books read in April' thread, I hated book 6, starting with the prologue. And the end just irritated me.

But I'm still glad I read the series, and I think partially I was so annoyed at the end because it was the end, if you know what I mean, and there are no more books to read. Sometimes I think I'm doomed to be disappointed with the end of every series, just because I hate to let a bunch of well-loved characters go...

I enjoyed the series very much and can definately recommend it.
Although there are some few odd contributions to the story (like killer sheep) which I appreciated nevertheless because the image still exhileriates me a lot. http://www.sffworld.com/ubb/smile.gif
