Oh! I just remembered something!

Cai pronounced like sky = Kai

In the Maori(New Zealand) language, Kai means "food, dinner".

Do you think Alison could of got the idea, for the name, from New Zealand? And then changed the spelling and the pronunciation?

It certainly describes Hem, considering he loves food and is generally eating!

:D:D:D

I too must agree that Cai as in Sky is the way I pronounce it as well. :)

My name means: "From the wood of the royal forest. From the royal fortress meadow."- I think lol i just found that online so it could be wrong. But it sounds spiffy so I'll just roll with it. :D

do you believe in "truenames", or do you believe that your usename is truly "yours"?

just thought this would make an interesting discussion...

Hmmmm, my username certainly isn't any type of Truename, but maybe people do have them. :)

hmm, good question

I don't think truenames are truely "yours" alone. I mean, look at the ones we know,

Singing spoiler
those names are basic words in the speech like Hem's means "crow." For the sake of the story, it works, but given the amount of bards in time, truenames must have been repeated because the Speech is only limited to so many words. But, truenames are more unique to the person than their usename. Hem is a common Pilanel name as well as Dorn. Maerad has been used again. So yes, truenames are more unique to the person, but I don't think they truely belong to any one person.

Perhaps some spoiler tags?

Hmm, but if someone has one name, do they necessarily have the same Truename, always? For example, if someone called Katherine's Truename was Twaka (random...), then couldn't someone else also called Katherine have Firroc (also random...) as a Truename? I may be wrong.

As for me, my name is a plant.
