I think use name sare very common. many people have them. True names are to describe the personality or characteristics of any one person.
so those you get along wiht may have almost connecting true names

Yeh that is kind of what i thought too, that a usename is just common from the area they live in or group of people they belong to and a truename tells you something about the character such as with Hem's true name. Although truenames could be common as well if they have similar personalities.

Hmm, but if someone has one name, do they necessarily have the same Truename, always? For example, if someone called Katherine's Truename was Twaka (random...), then couldn't someone else also called Katherine have Firroc (also random...) as a Truename? I may be wrong.

As for me, my name is a plant.

Yeh two katherine's wouldn't have the same truename a truename is something unique to them well that is how i see it, although similar people may have similar truenames. A usename is something picked by there parents when there born it isn't significant apart from the fact that that is what people call them.

As for me, my name is a plant.
(lulzes) took me a while to figure that out. i think i've spent so much time on the internet that i actually think your name is maia.
(what is it, again? fern? holly? grass? dandelion? XD)
...oh, imagine being named weed... "hey, weed! want some weed?" >.>

yes, i think truenames are completely original. not sure. they don't reflect the usename, but the person...

________________

i do believe "cai" is a common name. "milana" is, too... "elednor" is a rather obvious twist on "eleanor", if that has not already been mentioned...

I agree to eirin799, truenames are maybe original. Example, Maerad's truename. It's elednor isn't it? Elednor, as far as i know means : Fire Lily.

Self Explanation:

I guess Fire Lily because Maerad is fragile and beautiful, talented, but she is strong and have hidden powers too. Like a Fire lily. They have many symbolism.

AND Truenames are not just like : "Hey what's your Truename?" "It's Elednor, what about yours?"
It is a secret. It is the source of all your bardic powers, because when you are named, the Light (i guess) trusted it to you. It is like your secret self. The only ones who must know your TN (True names) is only yourself. Because if other bards knows your TN, they can attack you everytime. You can tell to your friends your truename if you EXTREMELY trusted them. Like Saliman to Hem in The Singing.

Spoiler tags! And that was in The Singing, not The Crow. ;)

I'm thinking up Truenames for some other characters, and I'm wondering. Maerad is Elednor, Fire Lily, and Hem is Riik, crow, but does every Truename have a meaning? If so, I also want to know the meaning of Saliman's Truename. :D A friend suggested 'desert candle', which I like personally.

RPG buddies: We should think them up for our characters. :D I know what Amgor's was before he went Hull...

It's Arundulan. Looking back for spelling, I saw that a meaning was indeed given. Ember.

That further backs up my thoughts that each Truename has a meaning.
