No, this is NOT another topic to bash Jordan! If I want to bash him, I can go to another topic. I promise I won't say a word! http://www.sffworld.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

I just have a question to ask: In tEotW Moiraine leads Rand to the Blight, to the Eye of the Word, so they can defeat the Dark One there. Defeating him, they hope that he'll stop chasing Rand. Though, as we latter see (in book 2), that doesn't happen. The Dark One doesn't stop hunting him. So, what was the point of that whole journey to the Blight and the Eye of the World??

I await the answer of all WoT fanatics. http://www.sffworld.com/ubb/smile.gif

hmm.. i can see two different possibilities for this trip.

this trip was basically a mistake. they thought to find the dark one there.. but rather they just encountered 2 of his lieutenants
Rand needed to get to the eye of the world to fully realize his destiny/potential, etc etc.

Kray3 is one the right track. Now, it's been a long time since I read EotW, but to my best recollection, the reason for the trip was a culmination of prophecy. Moraine took Rand to the Eye in an attempt to determine once and for all if he was the Dragon Reborn or just another man who could channel. It also gave Rand a "wake-up call" and made him accept that he was more than just a Two Rivers farmer.

Dont forget he got the Seal and Dragon Banner there.. the latter needed for fulfilling later prophecies http://www.sffworld.com/ubb/smile.gif

Actually I do know. I just thought it odd someone that read the book does not.

Moiraine comes right out and says why they are to go to Eye. Not waffling, just flat out says it.

The scene takes place when the group is reunited at the inn, The Queen's Man, in Caemlyn. And coincidently takes place right before they leave to go to the Eye.

As Bardos has probably burnt his WoT books i'll answer the question for him even though as John said it is stated very clearly in the book.

When they all meet up again in Caemlyn Loial tells Moiraine about a old man that came to a steading and mentioned that the Dark One was going to Blind the Eye or sometink like that. Perrin and eggy then mention they heard a similiar story from the tinkers. Moiraine thinks that the Dark One has a plan to use the Eye of the World to break free of his prison. She knows that the 3 boys ar all ta'veren and that one of them must be the Dragon Reborn so off they go to save the world.
Read chapters 41-43 to get the full story http://www.sffworld.com/ubb/smile.gif

And I guess it's too complicated for you to write it?...
If I wanted to look at the book, I wouldn't ask the question here; just a thought.

Edit: Thanks, Cal. Your post wasn't here, when I posted this.
But I really had the impression they went there so they can strike at the Dark One, and stop him chasing Rand...

And no, I haven't burned my WoT books... yet http://www.sffworld.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

Btw, how did they stop the Dark One of blinding the Eye. I just remember them fighting 2 (3?) Forsaken...

IIRC the Green Man intervened and fought Belal who was masquerading as the Dark One, which is a favorite past-time of many Forsaken! http://www.sffworld.com/ubb/smile.gif
