Yeah, I know, the fantasy genre isn't usually as creepy or horrifying as the horror genre, but still there are some pretty good bone-chilling fantasy novels out there. Such as "The Memory, Sorrow, and Thorn Trilogy" by Tad Williams. Man! Did I get chills and shivers up my spine reading those novels!!
So, what I'm asking everyone on the board is, what's the scariest, creepiest fantasy novel/novels you have read?

Oh, and no crappy jokes about "that fantasy novel was so stupid it scared me!" either!!! http://www.sffworld.com/ubb/smile.gif

I can't said I've ready many really creepy books.

Only one that comes to mind is The Devils Of D-Day, by Graham Masterton. That was pretty freaky.

I'd throw in Michelle West's Huntbrothers duology as being horrific.

Not the whole two books, of course. But there are specific scenes which I remember giving me chills when I read 'em.

For example:

The story of West's books involve a number of the nobility of a small kingdom being sacrificed to their god once every year in return for the prosperity of the land.

One scene that I'm reminded is when the lords are hunting through the forest as per ritual of the sacrifice and one of their number is culled and hunted down unknowingly by a... thing with sharp claws and fangs, so fast and strong that nothing could stop it.

Another scene I'm thinking of is the sojourn of one of the protagonist into the Dark Empire, a hell-like ancient empire ruled by demons in the dim history of the past. Can anyone say 'abandon all hope, all ye who enter'? http://www.sffworld.com/ubb/wink.gif

Jonathan Carroll's Land of Laughs creeped me out a bit. An excellent book that was darker than I initially thought it would be.

I have to agree with you, Zsinj16. There were definitely some creepy parts in that series.

Let's see, what else...

Feist's Faerie Tale was kinda creepy in parts.

A lot of King's stuff, though not fantasy in the traditional sense, gives me the chills: The Dark Half, It, Christine, The Shining.

The first time we read about a Myrdraal in WoT.

I'm sure there are more, but I they're not coming to me. http://www.sffworld.com/ubb/smile.gif

I'm sorry if this is off-topic, but somehow it .. kind of (?) fits in with something I've been posting a bit ago.
I've said that I don't think much of King's novels is actually Horror. I've been thinking about it for a while now .. I stick to my opinion; I think, indeed, the novels (although they are amazing as far as the style goes.. no other tells a story like that), they are not very creepy. I would consider some Fantasy and others fiction (or a mix between fiction and mystery, horror, ..).

BUT .. the short novels, on the other hand.. yuck. Some of those are *really* creepy. Makes me cringe when I think about some of 'em.
Lovecraft is even creepier, though. I think he must have been some kind of psycho :-p

Sorry for the OT post :-P
I don't think I've ever read any creepy Fantasy just yet.. hrm..
