Hey, I just logged on. Gimme some time, ya know. Also, isn't Brian Lumley a horror-writer? http://www.sffworld.com/ubb/smile.gif
I first read Lumley's vampire work on Blood Brothers and it was interesting enough for me to look up Necroscope. However, I think I had too high expectations on the 1st book because I wasn't too impressed. This also kept me from reading the other books.
However, the very idea of a 'Necroscope' fighting against super-vampires is still very attractive for me such that I'm curious enough to try Lumley's E-Branch series. Any opinion on that?
(Actually, Lumley always struck me as great on concepts but not so good on execution. I heard his Titus Crow series also had the same problems.)

I read the first couple Necroscopes. I like the first one a lot. Lost interest afterwards though.
However, my first encounter with the series, I had picked up one of the later books (WAY later) the Last Aerie, and I loved it. So, who knows.

Yes I quite liked the Titus Crow series (as far as I read) in a weak Lovecraftian sort of way... http://www.sffworld.com/ubb/smile.gif

I just recently took a brief break from fantasy and read a book called The Association by Bentley Little...its a story about a couple that move into a beautiful house within a gated community with a Homeowner's Association that rivals the Nazi regime...its quite scary...and it was so good I sat down and read all 420 pages in one day. Very bizarre, very entertaining read.

How is The Eyre Affair a break from fantasy?

I find it odd that folks think Little and Lumley are a break from fantasy. Horror is just another form of fantasy, folks. If you guys want to take a break more power to ya, I think everyone should do that but perhaps you should try broadening your horizons a bit and reading something that's in fact different -- like some non-fiction or a realist novel.
