okay okay i have read legends II .... i havent read the first one though... i like the lineup... somewhat.. grrmartin.. hobb.. williams... good! but i want something bigger longer.... like 5000pages. legends is just a coupling of short stories one by each author. i have read a short story collection by king, by tolkien, by ambrose bierce (old but very odd). it would be great if they could do some sort of unabridge bad boy of 10000 pages by the greats. but they dont. in my opinion its a sales tactic. though i love most of the writers i normally would not ready any book of less than 250pgs and unless i have had alot of influence to do so i wouldnt go for a book or short story under 100pgs. i consider a book if 250pgs or under a short story... very short. I would be far more impressed if the collaborators could put something together on a far more massive scale.

I HAVE TOO MUCH TIME ON MY HANDS... and french television drives me nuts.

Except Hobb didn't contribute to the first LEGENDS anthology.

Quite right Fitz. The story, The Inheritance, was in another collection published here.

What collection would that be? Was it set in the Farseer/Liveship world?

CF

Yes, it was set in the world of the Six Duchies, it was about a girl and her heirloom. I don't know what collection it is in in English, I read it translated in Dutch in a collection very similar to Legends which was a special edition by the Dutch Fantasy publisher. Presumably this story should be available in English as well.

I think that Hobb story was published by Voyager (Hobb's UK publisher) a couple of years ago to celebrate the publisher's anniversary. IIRC a Feist book was also published.

You are referring to this book (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0812566645/ref=pd_sim_b_2/104-8260866-4501538?%5Fencoding=UTF8&v=glance), I think, which is actually part of the original Legends anthology. LEGENDS I was published originally in hardback, when it went to Mass Market Paperback, it was broken down into three books, the three books combined contain the same material as the original hardcover

I think that Hobb story was published by Voyager (Hobb's UK publisher) a couple of years ago to celebrate the publisher's anniversary. Yes, it was - I bought a copy (very expensively!) a couple of years ago, because up to now the story hasn't appeared anywhere else. There was a limited print run, and it was given away free if you bought books from the authors included in it. There were 5 stories, to celebrate the 5 years of Voyager's publishing, but only 118 pages in total.

The authors were Robin Hobb (Fantasy), Jan Siegel (Fantasy) Arthur C Clarke and Stephen Baxter (Sf), Juliet Marillier (Fantasy) and Kim Stanley Robinson (SF).

If you get chance to find it, the ISBN is 0007612656.

perhaps... but i was given legends II the book as a give from my inlaws when they went on their trip to ireland. i had actually ordered legends I on amazon.fr and they sent me another legends II?? i was just doing a search on tad williams (thanks to your post in reference to shadowmarch fitz) and i see a legends III with ursula le guin... and this is dated 2000. but my legends II seems to be all dated 2003.

anyways i guess i am all lost as i usually am when it comes to short story collections and what not. dont like em for the most part as they are too short.

unless of course it is a short story by ambrose bierce or a novella by stephen king.

i would even consider the earthsea trilogy a novella as they were so annoyingly short.

but thanks for the brainpause on this i have to check this out.

Again, the Legends III you are referencing is the PAPERBACK REPRINT of the ORIGINAL LEGENDS ANTHOLOGY. It was originally published in HARDCOVER and SPLIT into 3 volumes when released in paperback.
