I voted for Dan. As good as Josh and Rich were, for me Dan aced the play-off.

I found his tale to be brilliantly cynical in that understated way he has, plus the central concept of transplanting society elites into the bodies of serial killers was intriguing enough that I'd like to see more of it. The "ecological argument" for the need to have serial killers absolutely floored me. Even the delivery format was original. And all in just 500 words after a long weekend. And at his age, too :)

On to Rich's tale and being a Ninglishman I had no idea initially what a "slim jim" was and decided it must be a condom because of Harold's nerves. In the end it wasn't relevant and the story focussed on a simple lottery-ticket-disaster premise. I enjoyed it all the way through.

Josh bought us a woman's transition to an "Alt" (I desperately wished for them to be Cntrld by a character by Del) which struck me as a possible fresh take on Alice in Wonderland. The ending, however, confused me (is Alice's body in the restaurant at the same time she's in the system eating the ice cream?

Congratulations to all three, and thanks to Fung for a well organised contest. Looking forward to next month's already.

I went with Rich, partly because I believe his story was the strongest of the three tied original entries, but also because I liked the humor of his new entry.

Haha, never even considered someone could go through life without the joy of having super-processed beef jerky tear their bowels a new one.

Perhaps I should have went for "skittles" or something (you English folk do have skittles, right?).

You've got Malbec though...
(I'm not too much of a wine drinker... but my father-in-law makes frequent trips to South America and introduced me to the stuff. Very tasty...)

oh lord... don't get me started..... malbec is just the tip of the iceberg.... we have very good cabernet and cabernet sauvignon, and if you like white wine we have the best. Life is good in this part of the world!!! and if you really like something special you must try what we call "cocecha de otoņo" o "tempranillo" , translated would be something like "late harvest", i don't know how you call that kind of wine. When they harvest the grapes in that part of the year a really sweet white wine is the result. almost licorish.

check out this wine maker:

http://www.bodegaweinert.com/

in there go to "our wines" -> "special reserve" -> "cosecha de otoņo"

if you can get your hands of one of those bottles you won't regret it!!!
