Novel about after earth is gone - DNA antenna

Ok, spent the last 2 hours trying to figure out every google combo to find this novel. I read this easily 15 years ago.

* Earth is long gone, I believe destroyed by Sun going Nova
* Good Alien finds DNA in cosmic dust, realizes DNA is antenna to "soul"
* Good Alien reincarnates human species on designed planet as bait for enemy
* enemy alien are tiny parasitic beings that (I believe) travel through wormholes, strange name like zyxtl or xytcl
* Good alien feels bad for making humans bait after getting to know us

I also believe the good alien travels in some sort of silver ship all the time

Hope someone knows this one I really want to re-read this novel.

Great novel; read it a long time ago from the library and then bought a copy which I still own :)
