I really hope this is this man's idea of a joke; it is April 1st after all.

It's a joke. Tor.com also has lots of lovely ones up today. I particularly liked the entry in which Fox Television announced that they are canceling Joss Whedon himself today.

I sort of figured it was. He seems like the type of person who loves practical jokes.

It's a joke, he does it every April Fool's Day. He's probably thinking up next year's post now, we all know he won't be done by then.

What other April Fools jokes related to the fantasy genre were done this year?
Collect them here.

I've seen a few on some French blogs:

http://martlet-blog.blogspot.com/
This one mentions that Dance was published immediately on April 1 to delight fans with the surprise, and books 6 and 7 were already handed in to the publisher and would be released later in 2009 and 2010.

This one talks about Robin Hobb's Assassin series being turned into a black and white film produced by Uwe Boll, winner of 3 oscars and inspired by Ingrid Bergman.

:D

Since you asked, here's one that I posted on my blog (http://ofblog.blogspot.com/2009/04/random-news-and-personal-announcement.html) that deals with new career plans, Harlan Ellison getting the GRRM treatment, Felix Gilman and hamster, and Jeff VanderMeer and...well, just click on the link!

Someone on another board also posted that Martin was finished with A Dance With Dragons. I'd copy it here, but the site says anything posted there is copyrighted. (WTF?)

He wrote that the book would be 90% Daenrys (sp?), but that Hodor (!) would have a POV chapter, as would one of the dragons. I was really excited until I remembered the date. Bastard. :)

The funniest part about GRRM's April Fool's joke is reading the user comments. A lot of people believed him instantly, and indicated that they were totally fine with it! LOL. Come on, people... I'm in the GRRM-Defender's camp, but if he suddenly brought in a new author to help finish the series, I would not just accept it so quickly, without at least some questioning!

I was one of the idiots that believed him at first (but then isn't that what he was going for?) then I realized the date. And my first thought was that I was angry that he couldn't finish his own book and there was no way anyone else was going to do as good a job. Boy did I feel stupid when I remembered the day:)
