Having read the trilogy a few times now i wondered what you are thinking about this trilogy as i am about to pick up and read the books again. I enjoyed the concepts and ideas presented by Pullman as it struck me as quite imaginative compared to Harry Potter (just as an example). and i really enjoyed them. what do you think of this set?

Here's a very extensive thread about the series. Granted it hasn't been updated in nearly 3 years...
Pullman - His Dark Materials....Question (http://www.sffworld.com/forums/showthread.php?t=8296)
Personally, I remember liking it a lot; and a more than HP.

I enjoyed it immensely. I'm not sure why it is so often compared to Harry Potter. About the only thing they have in common is that they're popular YA fantasy series.
If you did like Harry Potter and His Dark Materials you may also enjoy Jonathan Stroud's Bartimaeus trilogy. That was a hoot and had an unusual idea behind it.

I enjoyed His Dark Materials very much--I felt it was quite original and also very intelligent. I'm sure if you do a search in the Fantasy forum you'll find there have been very many threads on the books here over the years. :)
