Is there any truth to rumours about j k rowling being connected with any satanic rituals, etc.? We have a step-grandson who has been told by his pastor that she is and he should not read her books.

I am not to sure if this is a sincere question, but, I will treat it as one.

Rumors are malicious things, many are unfounded and untrue. If you are worried that your grandson may be reading material that might not be approriate, my simple suggestion is that you yourself read the book, and decide for yourself.

As to my personal opinion, it's a horrible rumor, and untrue.

I concur, there is nothing in the slightest Satanic about the Harry Potter novels, IMO!

Rumours such as these can turn out to be far more serious than the original concern raised, with widespread and devasting effects to an author's integrity and reputation, and as such, should be quashed at every opportunity.

Heed Keyoke's very sensible advice and read the material yourself if you are concerned that it may be unsuitable for your children or grand children. The books, after all, are nothing more than a work of creative fiction, and I'm sure these rumours will enjoy the same description! http://www.sffworld.com/ubb/smile.gif

I don't know why you chose to post this in the feedback section, but since you did I just wanted to point out that sffworld.com is not in any way in direct contact with J.K. Rowling nor a representative for J.K. Rowling or her books. So if that’s why you posted this in the feedback section you should rather try raising your concerns with her publishers that are Bloomsbury in the UK and Scholastics in the US.

Well, just wanted to make it clear http://www.sffworld.com/ubb/smile.gif.

Satanic, nah. Over religous zealots that fear that fantasy is the work of the devil? Of course.

Me, being one of the less devoted catholics out there, don't let god know about this little conversation.;)

Yeah, you're pretty much screwed. But then, being Russian Orthodox, so am I :)

There was satirical article on a website that was mocking this attitude with a made-up article coming up with really screwball facts about the %rise of Satanism--entirely fictional--but lo and behold I eventually found it circulating as an email depicting the assertions as fact and the original source deleted.

If only that were true Cadfael.

Sorry, LeMort, though I'm sure your comments were made in jest, in an effort to avoid any legal ramifications I have had to remove them and will now close this thread, as Cadfael suggested.
