Writing FanFiction

Why can't i write fanfiction as a multiauthor project? I was only using 1 original name of a minor character..

Can I ask, would this minor character be in our world, or the world the original author created?

Basing a story on worlds and characters created by other authors (Fanfiction) is something that could possibly get you into a lot of trouble. I'm not saying that it will, but if an author/publisher should choose to pursue such a thing legally, it's definitely a battle you will loose, and because of all the copyright and intellectual property issues involved with Fanfiction this is something that sffworld can’t allow.

Dag has reiterated what I said when I closed your topic, Alai: due to such copyright issues as mentioned, we cannot allow fan fiction at SFF.

Alai... the following link will explain SFF's reluctance to have a fanfic thread... as Dag has said... legal action may not happen, but you will see that can happen, and the reisk is increasing as new laws to govern the internet are passed.

At the very least it would be a breach of 'intellectual' copyright. Can you tell me for certain that Orson Scot Card had NOT put a copyright on this...

Ok, I understand you. I'll try to find out if Card has the copyright. I'll post here if he doesn't.

Irrespective, Alai, sadly, we do not allow fanfiction of any type at SFF. http://www.sffworld.com/ubb/smile.gif

Ok, I wont then, I'll figure out a story of my own.

Alai, you could also try to continue on our old collaborative (or multiauthor) story. It's a long time since anyone wrote anything on it, but it's not declared dead yet (I think). The story was called 'Tales of Baldarr' or something like that. It wasn't SF but fantasy, though.

Alternative, there was an even older collaborative SF story called 'Lost Breed,' started by lior. You could also dig that one out and try to resurrect it.

Both of them should still be somewhere in the Writing forum.
