Anyone remember this book? I read it as a kid in the '70s, so it's at least that old. The sun is a big incubator and the planets are eggs. A giant bird flies in from space/other galaxy/etc, flies around Mercury and Mercury cracks open and a baby bird is inside, etc. Anyone ever heard of this? Internet searches aren't turning up much.

I seem to recall some Star Trek novel with a similar plot, but that is all I have....

I think that is "And Lo! The Bird" by Nelson Bond.
The short story has recently and suddenly translated to Japanese,
and the crazy plot surprised Japanese SF fans including me.
