I'm looking for a fantasy novel that is not a part of a saga/trilogy. In short, a stand-alone fantasy novel set in a fantasy world ala Middle Earth, not in an Earth setting.

Sorry, but I'm the type of person who wouldn't sleep peacefully until I've finished an entire series of books, but now I don't have enough time to read three books of Thomas Covenant, hobbits, etc...

Any recommendations? Thanks in advance..

Hi Holocoz

First, welcome to the forum.

Second, we have a growing Recommendation thread at the top of the forum:
The New and Improved Recommendation - Fantasy / Horror (http://www.sffworld.com/forums/showthread.php?t=20845)

Third, we have two threads recommending stand-alone fantasy books:
Stand Alone books?? / Standalone (http://www.sffworld.com/forums/showthread.php?t=146)
Best Stand Alone Book (http://www.sffworld.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2746)

Fourth, this forum has been active just about a decade so you might want to utilize our SEARCH (http://www.sffworld.com/forums/search.php) function, because chances are the question you have may have been asked.

Fifth, and most importantly, I hope you enjoy your stay here at SFFWorld and find some good people and good books to read!

Hey Holocoz. If you haven't read it check out Stephen Kings Eyes of the Dragon. A great stand alone fantasy book.

Ian Graham's Monument comes to mind. It's pretty dark and it features quite an anti-hero but even so he grows on you.

Surely, Brandon Sanderson's Elantris also fits the bill quite nicely.

You could also give Gemmel's Drenai series a try. As far as I remember, the books are not heavily connected and you can read each of them alone, especially the first one, Legend. If I'm mistaken, someone will point that out very soon, I hope :)

I haven't read Eyes of the Dragon in ages but it is a great book. I fondly recall a book called The Legend of Nightfall which was very good

http://www.amazon.com/Legend-Nightfall-Daw-Book-Collectors/dp/0886775876/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1242102782&sr=8-1

and while looking it up I just found out there is a sequel so, I apologize that it is not a stand alone.

Another book I enjoyed was The Long Walk by Stephen King

Elantris is the best "stand-alone" book I know of.

Guy Gavriel Kay has some amazing stand alone books. My favorite would be Tigana.

Wizard of Earthsea by Ursula Le Guin can be read as a standalone. You could even go ahead the whole trilogy, it could easily fit in one of the fat fantasy volumes typical today.

Peter S Beagle's written many stand alone fantasy novels. He's also a wonderful writer.

Taking your criteria in mind, I'd recommend:
The Last Unicorn
The Innkeeper's Song

There's also Tamsin, which is set in modern earth, though it takes place on a 300 year old farm in England.
