I remember reading this book in the 70's.

The blurb on the back describes an image of the city of London with Winston Churchill and Queen Victoria walking down the street. While Zeppelins battle overhead with biplanes. The cover art showed an image to that efffect.

The real story is that some children have been raised by automated machinery. There are only a few of them. Everybody else are robots. The children become suspicious when the other children at school grow overnight. While they do not.

Does anybody know the book?

That's "The Overman Culture" (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Overman-Culture-Coronet-Edmund-Cooper/dp/0340178604/ref=sr_1_12?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1242744813&sr=1-12) by Edmund Cooper. Brilliant book.

Thanks for that. It's a pity the Amazon cover image isn't the same as the one I recall. Obviously a different edition.
