I just found out that The Giver by Lois Lowry is getting the Hollywood treatment. I'm pretty psyched to see that.

My only concern is the casting. Some of those characters have very distinct images in my mind, and I would be curious to see who they choose. As for making it black and white, I can see it as filmed in a sort of "Chocolat" way, with certain emphasis on color or lack of it.

I think the best comparison/model is Pleasantville...start off the film in B&W, but as time goes on, more and more things become colorized...but some things or people never change because they're too much a part of the societal machine.

Yeah, is it my fuzzy memory, or wasn't Jonas described as being Asian looking?
