Not necessarily WW2, but Jerry Pournelle's Janisseries (http://www.fantasticfiction.co.uk/p/jerry-pournelle/janissaries.htm) series rings a bell.

Then there's David Drake/John Ringo/David Weber, who all tend to blur in my mind. David Weber's Hells Gate (http://www.fantasticfiction.co.uk/w/david-weber/hell-s-gate.htm)? It does sound very Baen Books, though.

Weber's Excalibur Alternative is about a group of soldiers which are kidnapped by aliens. They were not WWII soldiers though. English Longbowmen IIRC.

Turtledove did a series about A Roman Legion transported from earth to an alien world. I think first book was A Misplaced Legion
