Welcome to the brand new Horror Board, with many thanks to Lior for suggesting it, and of course to Dag for giving it a go!

Horror is of course closely related to both Science Fiction and Fantasy and can certainly support its own section, at least in my opinion.

Like Lior, I too love the works of Stephen King, one of my all-time favorite writers. There are also some classic cross-genre authors out there as well. Peter F Hamilton's Night's Dawn trilogy is a classic and excellent example of this and one that immediately springs to mind.

I look forward to seeing future topics and hope that everyone here takes the time to keep a few threads going.

I may even have to post a few more of my horror-themed short stories down the track! In the meantime, I have one posted in the Horror section already: Ghost of Elysium, although this story could fit into a variety of genres and has already earned me some interesting and conflicting opinions!

Hmm... i thought Night's Dawn is a space opera.

I have to say that you will likely not see me in this forum much, because horror films, and especially books scare the living daylights out of me. Even really bad ones. I've always had a horribly active imagination, and a sensitive disposition, and how anyone could sit through films or books like that and 'enjoy' them is beyond me http://www.sffworld.com/ubb/smile.gif

Just to give you all a laugh, I read Pet Semetary by Stephen King when I was about 13, and I used to leave the book out on the porch at night because I was scared to keep it in the house! http://www.sffworld.com/ubb/redface.gif

I thing I love most about horror is that horror can deal with gruesome subjects in a very poetical way. That difference -- the creepy story written in a beautiful way -- is what keeps me coming back to horror as a great read. Anne Rice does this wonderfully, writing in her hynotically poetic style about vampires sucking people's blood and all the rest. It's a wonderful combination!

I absolutely love horror, and I am always on the lookout for anything that will seriously fracture the mind. I don't like the stuff written for shock value or anything, but work that makes you think - or, rather, think twice...? Now that's worth the paper it's printed on. Stories with Twilight Zone-type turns, where madness is the ultimate antagonist (rather than some werewolf or burn-scarred dead guy) - THOSE are the stories that twist up the walls when you turn out the lights...

Very nice... I'm glad this board is here!!

If you truly love horror, try writing a press release and watch what happens. Another variant would be finding an honest or useful agent. Not to belabor the point, but I can't write decent horror until I overcome its personal ramifications. Fantasy and SF are much easier.
