Why do you all enjoy reading horror. I am more likely to crap my spleen out than get a thrill off reading things that go bump in the night.

So why do all you guys do it? I mean really, do you recieve a rush of adrenaline on every creepy page. Or is it something more incomprehensible?

Please let me know. http://www.sffworld.com/ubb/smile.gif

I've never analyzed it.

I think I read horror for the same reason I read anything else -- I like to read.

Good horror is no different than good fantasy or SF. The author creates characters and places that interest you, and you relax and let the story take you away.

I've heard people say we read horror because we can point at the hapless victims in the stories and think "You poor shlub, you're about to be ghoul-meat and I'm sitting home safe in my living room eating popcorn and drinking beer."

Or we might identify with the bad guy, Randall Flagg or Hannibal Lecter, and take out our enemies, or graze on the free-range rude.

A lot of fantasy and SF has elements of horror, and vice versa. You probably read more horror than you realize.

Personally, I view every genre as horror... life is just one big ball of terrifying splatter scenes, whether the murder weapon is a butcher knife or a mother in law...

Horror novels bore me. I prefer beer and pepperoni pizza: Now that's a real horror show at 1 in the morning.
