If there are, Orbit has the first chapter of Pattern up on there website.

So anyone here tried him?

He's a damn good author if a tad weird at times. His second series "The Scavenger Trilogy" is better than his first one. Book 0ne "Shadow" apart from have neat cover art is a really good book. Confusing but good.

If you are looking for something a bit different I reccomend giving him a try.

Start with the "Fencer Trilogy" if you want a complete series and then move on to "Shadow".

I have read the first 2 of the Fencer books... the third still gathers dust on my bookshelf... but that is not to say I don't like them, just not got around to it yet.

I agree it is an excellent series, and he does not get the recognition he deserves... perhaps he is an aquired taste?

The end of Belly Of The Bow just blew me away... I though I had it sussed... I never expected that... and this guy is the HERO!!!

I had no idea Parker had a new series in progress... any chance of you naming the books?

I was under the impression that the Fencer Trilogy was out of print, or at least hard to find. Am I incorrect? I was intrigued by some earlier posts that mentioned the series and wanted to give them a try. They are considered "military" fantasy, are they not?

As far as I know they are not out of print. Amazon.co.uk has them and the books are on the shlf in book stores in australia.Don't know about america. Yes they are miltary fantasy and are quite detailed.

Hmmm....according to Amazon.com they are out of print. I'm guessing shipping would be outrageous if I ordered from amazon.co.uk. Looks like I'll have to check the used book stores.

What is the name of the third book in the series?

The Fencer Trilogy:

1.Colours in the Steal
2.Belly of the Bow
3.The Proof House.

Wierd... they are sitting on the shelf at my local bookstore... and available from my book club, As far as I know they are generally available... where are you brother?

In fact.. The Proof House is quite recent... I think... too early to be out of print???

I remember it was translated into Dutch and became one of many series that was never finished due to lack of interest. The market's too small here, except for the really big, successful epics like Martin, Feist or Eddings. Only the first book was done.

Some other series that this happened to:
Tyrants and Kings by Marco
Night's dawn trilogy by P. Hamilton
Sword of Shadows by JV Jones (only the first book was done, there won't be more)
Malazan book of the Fallen (news just came that Memories of Ice won't be translated).

So, Parker's Fencer trilogy is, at the very least, in good company http://www.sffworld.com/ubb/smile.gif

Is it just me or wasn't the Fencer books boring?

Granted I read only the 2nd book but I had to slog through the whole thing and there was nothing much to redeem my reading: bad background history, bad prose, and a 'duh' ending. The only bright thing about the book was the slightly-interesting characters.

Though I suppose I had high expectations of the book since it was about a fencer. But still, I'm a pretty forgiving guy when it concerns my reading and this was was pretty unforgivable...
