Hello,

I hope this is not a kind of generic question of what to read next so I will try and ask?

I am looking for some books where protagonist is just a regular guy living in 20 century, gets transported to a fantastical, magical world filled with adventure?

Would appreciate any recommendations.

The first thing I thought of was Futurama, but that's probably not what you had in mind. XD Tad Williams' War of the Flowers fits your description and it's a good read.

also, guy gavriel kay's fionavar tapestry might be something for you.

stephen donaldson's 'thomas covenant' series also fits the bill, but it's more on the 'heavy' side.

Guy Gavriel Kay's Fionavar Tapestry trilogy is a nice one. The Talisman by Stephen King and Peter Straub is another one that comes to my mind.

You can check out Joel Rosenberg's Guardians of the Flame series. Read them when I was younger so I am not sure how well they hold up now. There is definitely some gritty stuff in them considering it starts off with a bunch of D&D players getting ported to a real fantasy land.

Weaveworld by Clive Barker probably too interleaved with our modern world though
Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman same problem

the Amber books by Zelazny, only really the first bit of the first one

Well I have been beat to the punch but I got to put in my vote for the Fionavar Tapestry. It sounds exactly like what you are looking for friend. It is really good - IMO.

While were on the Tapestry - I read the Summer Tree this summer - unfortunately not under a tree - but I'm not sure I want to continue the series. I had a very difficult time getting into it, possibly due to only reading a couple pages a day - but what is it in this series that everyone seems to like? I hate to leave it unfinished and I know this was his first book but does it get better? It's hard to put my finger on why it didn't appeal to me but I think it was mostly his style.

Also - If your looking for ordinary people I'm not sure Covenant applies - however Donaldson also wrote a great two books with a more normal individual - Mordant's Need.

War of the Flowers by Tad Williams features a 30'ish musisian transported into an industrial Faeryland.

Stephen Lawhead's Song of Albion trilogy features two guys in the UK who are transported into another realm.

I'll third the Fionavar Tapestry, which is the best of those IMO.
