Could someone help me find the title of this story.

When I was kid, my dad used to read me Sci-fi stories. I remember he read me this one story about an astronaut who went out looking for other astronauts who got lost in space. At the very end, the astronaut realizes that the others weren't lost, they just decided not to return because space was so beautiful and they'd been captured by it and could not leave it.

Also, I recall there was a talking dog in the story.

If anyone could help me find the title of this story, that would be great. I think it might have been by Fredrick Brown.

I'm sorry I don't remember more details from it, but I was very young when it was first read to me.

It's called Desertion by Clifford D. Simak.
