Moon phases

Hello All,

I'm writing an historic book (set in Spain) in which the moon phases are very important. I'd like the details to be as accurate as possible. Does anyone know how I can find out the phases of the moon for the months of July and August in 1492?

There are a couple of programs online, but they do not go back as far as 1492. I'm thinking of ordering a 'lunarwheel', but thought I'd ask here first. Any ideas?

Have you tried wolframalpha.com?, they seem to have information on everything else I've asked.

Personally I would take timing of the phase from another era then lay out my plot with respect to that. Without all due respect no one is going to care whether the full moon was really was on the 14th or a few days earlier.

It's enough for the author to care. If you're writing a historical book, why not do the relatively easy task of researching the moon phase for the time you need, instead of making something up? In fact, it's EASIER if you look it up because you don't have to worry about going wrong. And if hardcore fans are ever going to dissect her book, she can lean back confidently knowing that even this minor detail is right ;)

Thanks Scorpion and B5 for that link, but I found a more visual calendar calculator here:

In case anyone was interested.

Oh, Michael B, yeah, I was thinking about just winging it, but I have stuff that has to happen at the apex of the full moon and it's actually easier to just have a moonrise/moonset calendar in front of me to figure the timing of all the events as it's entirely possible that the dirty deed could happen during the day.

Anyway, thanks all. :)
