We've had a few queries about posting ads for secondhand goods etc. at the Forum. Just so that everyone knows the score, the site owner has decided that this is not something that he will allow at the forums at this time. I thank everyone for their understanding and co-operation.
Cheers, Neil

Hello again everyone...
A few of our members have expressed some concern at the levels of fun posts (or spam if you like) in the General Discussion forum. The offical stance here is that spamming will be alllowed if it is not excessive, and kept to the GD boards. The site owner does not have a problem with it, especially as in most cases it leads to fun and frivolity on the boards, which is a lot better than fights, IMO! :)
However, those members who don't appreciate such fun posts also have a right to be heard, and so I would ask that we try to keep a balance and not flood the topics too much, if possible.
Thanks to everyone for their understanding,
Neil

For the benefit of our new members, I just wanted to remind you that the Custom User Text under your member names is only activated for members to amend themselves once you have remained a member for 10 days, and also have a minimum of 10 posts.
If you'd like a change of title in the meantime, please ask me or one of the other admins and we'll see if we can help. :)

As this is primarily a SF and Fantasy forum, yes, we do draw the line at religious or political or racist or any sorts of extreme topics. (It is mentioned in the rules when you sign up here actually.) There are plenty of other sites out there for that where people can fight and insult each other. The worst you could expect here is a rather full-frontal assault of Ogg's putrid flatulence - anything else will be quickly removed if it is, in our opinion, offensive or extreme or deemed inappropriate for SFFW. :)

We have rescued this thread just to make it a place for member notices etc. Most issues raised here have already been discussed elsewhere in the General Discussion threads or in the Feedback section so we will limit this thread for announcements from staff etc.

Just a reminder for those who haven't visted the Writing section that the next SFFW Writing Contest will run from September 1st to September 30th. More details will be posted in the Writing section soon. Good luck everyone!
Also, we've had a few people joining up just to post links or advertisements to other sites and forums etc. This process is being monitored carefully and if the SFFW staff believe that the post is inappropriate, or if the member in question has not been actively involved in this forum, such posts and threads will be removed.

Some of the unnecessary threads started recently, which were nothing more than spammy extensions of existing threads have been removed. While we do allow a certain amount of fun posting here in the General Discussion section, it has always been on the proviso that it stayed at an acceptable level. Of late, that level seems to have been exceeded with threads being started as polls to discuss other threads and the like. It is not necessary to start new threads just for the sake of commenting on other threads, and as such, some of these have been removed. We want you all to have fun here, but as mentioned in the notice in the Fantasy section, we also have to be mindful that this is primarily a speculative fiction forum, and not a spamming or number of posts contest.
Dag has put an awful lot of time and money into the site and as such it is one of the most popular and credible SF/F/H sites on the Net. Please make sure we don't do anything to damage that reputation. By all means, have fun, but please, try to practice some restraint and help us out by not starting unnecessary threads or dumping too much over-the-top spam.
Thanks for your co-operation. :)

Just another reminder regarding the SFFW policy on advertising on the site. We will not allow non-active members to stop by for just one or two posts for the sole purpose of bombarding the forum topics with links to their products or sites etc. We have had some recent instances where the only posts from the offending new members were their ads, and there was no other input from them into our site at all. Subsequently, these threads have now been removed.
There have also been some posts regarding banned members. This subject has been mentioned in previous notices and accordingly, the offending (and yes, I find them extremely offending) topics have also now been removed.
I would like to congratulate all our active spammers for their restraint, however, I would just like to remind everyone that unnecessary spam will still not be tolerated, and will definitely not be allowed anywhere outside of the General Discussion forum.
Cheers, Neil

Yet another reminder about blatant adverstising on these forum boards. Dropping a bombardment of ads in every major forum will not be tolerated, and as such, all offending posts will be immediately removed. I thank everyone for their understanding and co-operation in this matter.
