Short Story

Seeking name and author of old short story that I only vaguely remember.
First line: "This is the end of the story."
This was a galactic empire type of story.
Short introductory couple of paragraphs, then "this is the middle of the story" launches into the story.
Finally "This is the beginning of the story" reveals that the main character was an impostor, the whole plot is turned upside down revealing that the good guys are really the bad guys, etc.
Bugging me for years. Please help.

It had been bugging me for years, too! Through some luck I found out the story is "Happy Ending" by Henry Kuttner (or at least that's the one I was looking for).
