I registered here today and I just wanted to say hello to everyone. I am a beginning writer, however I have been making up stories (in my noggin') for over 25 years, since I was a young pup. I finally made up my mind it's time to put one of these stories down on paper. Then reality set in and I realized it is a lot harder than I expected translating the stories floating in my brain into written words.

There seems to be a lot of good info on this site for us newbies. I hope to pick up a few pointers from all of you as well...

Hi Colossus! Welcome!

I'm pretty new here, too, and in the same boat as you. I've learned, and am still learning, quite a bit here. This is a fun place, full of *ahem* interesting folks. :)

What other sites have you been visiting for help with your writing?

Welcome Colossus, you might also want to have a look at sffworld.com's article section. There should be at least 70-80 articles about writing there. The Articles section (http://www.sffworld.com/authors/articles.html)

Check out The Writers Association:

http://communities.msn.com/TheWritersAssociation

My time is fairly limited, so that is the only other site I visit with any regularity. The people there are friendly, knowledgable, and VERY helpful.

Colossus was the first sci-fi movie I ever saw, that I remember at least. I was told I saw 2001: A Space Odyssey at the theater but I was only three at the time. Once I saw Colossus, at the tender age of five, I was hooked on sci-fi. I read the book by DF Jones at least 20 times.

I haven't had the opportunity to check out any of H. Harrisons books yet. Which ones would you recommend? A friend of mine recommended "The Deathworld Series" and "Skyfall".
