Hi everyone. I'm new to this forum, but a big sci fi fan. I was hoping everyone can help me locate novels that deal with the concept of generation ships or any sort of long-term transportation ships (like the Rama ship). I read Orphans of The Sky from Heinlein and thought it was great.

Brian Aldiss-Non Stop and Ben Bova with the Exiles Trilogy are some that I can recollect.
Personally I think Non Stop convinced me that I ought to be reading more science fiction.Perhaps a bit dated now but still a really interesting story.

There is a great short story by Clifford D Simak called "Target Generation". It is about 40 generations of a families living on a starship trying to reach and colonize another planet.

My all time favourite generations ship novel is 'Colony' by Rob Grant.
It deals with the things that can go wrong... er... blown out of all proportion in true Red Dwarf style!

And All The Stars A Stage by James Blish, The Dream Millennium by James White are two interesting books along those lines. You might enjoy reading them

Vonda MacIntire did a series with generation ships involved. I believe the first one was called Transcendance .
