Need Help - Immortals and Big Cats

I read a Sci Fi story back when I was a kid back in the 80s. I remember it being a so-so book but it is bugging me that I can't remember the title.

I want to say it involved some immortal guys running around in armor and using darkages style weapons (battle axes and such) but it took place in a post apocalyptic future. I also want to say that it involved some big cats, like maybe some sabertooth cats. Radiation was somehow involved too.

I'm sure it is out of print by now but any help would be great.

18 of those written by Robert Adams plus a couple more SS collections by various authors. The main failing was the first novel covered about 10 books worth of actions. I don't think Adams wrote it to be part of a long series but a stand along. The series is quite well done though. He also wrote a Castaways in Time series that was excellent.
