Anyone read Shades of Gray yet? Any good? I'm intrigued by this departure from metafiction.

Also, I've been reading First Among Sequels and I was wondering if anyone else was disappointed. I'm a big fan of the first four but this one seems as if it was written by someone impersonating Fforde. It seems all very rough and direct and with none of his trademark wit. Even Thursday seems very flat to me

I’m reading it at the moment. I should be finished in the next day or so and I will post a full review at travelsthoughiest.blogspot.com. I agree that First Among Sequels was disappointing. I felt that with Something Rotten Fforde had taken Thursday as far as she could go and tied up all the loose ends. FAS to me was the result of temptation from the author to go to the well one time too many or publisher pressure to produce another instalment in a successful series. Without spoiling anything I can confidently say that if you liked the Thursday Next books then you will like Shades of Grey, it’s a different world and has new characters and concepts, but if you enjoy Fforde’s writing then you will definitely get something out of Shades of Grey.
